LFS Lesson Plan

Types of drawing

Unit EQ: How are technologies designed developed before production?
LEQ: How do we represent objects on paper.
Activating Strategies: Draw a sketch of a car, mug, toy block. Use student examples to discuss views, 3d, 2d, isometric, oblique, front view (most info).
Acceleration/Previewing/Vocabulary: isometric, oblique, perspective, sketch, orthographic, 3 dimensional, 2 dimensional, distorted, proportion
Teaching Strategies and Distributed Guided Practice/Summarizing Prompts:
1. Review activating strategy to help explain challenges faced when drawing.
  • 3d on 2d paper
  • dimensions
  • proportion
  • realistic
  • true size and shape
  • distortion
2. Perspective
  • means create depth
  • 1 point
  • 2 point and 3 point
  • vanishing point to give depth
  • 3 sides in one view.
  • distorted dimension to create 3 D effects
  • communicates over all look but not useful for construction
3. Oblique
  • Oblique means slanting or sloping (angled)
  • uses 45 degree anlge to show 3 sides of an object
  • shows front view in true size and shape
  • depth is distorted length (depth is 1/2 actual) and angled to create 3d.
4. Isometric
  • iso means equal
  • both sides are equal angle and length.
  • 30 degree angleShows 3 sides in one view. angles are distorted. ie. right angles are not 90 degrees.

5. Orthographic
  • orthomeans true. Orthodontist puts your teeth in the correct or true shape. To true something is to return it to its correct angle and size.
  • Each line and angle is true size and shape
  • Lines can be measured and dimensions transferred stock.
  • Can be scaled down. 1/4" = foot.
  • lines are in proportion
  • Front view shows the most information
  • Front view is done first
Summarizing Strategies:
Use drawing identification handout.
