Abrasive Belt, Table, Miter Gauge, V-Block
Teaching Strategies and Distributed Guided Practice/Summarizing Prompts:
  • Sander Usage Rules
    • Always Use Safety Glasses and follow other standard lab rules
    • Firmly hold piece of material against table
    • Use a V-Block to sand dowels
    • Do not force material against sander
    • Do not attempt to sand small pieces of material
    • Avoid awkward hand positions that may bring your hands close to the abrasive belt
    • Keep Hands away from belts and rollers
    • Use entire width of belt when sanding materials
  • Discuss start-up and shutdown procedures for the sander
    • Ensure there is no material on the table of either sanding area
    • Make sure the working area is clear of dust and debris
  • Sanding Tips
    • Make sure the material being sanded does not have any dust on it
    • Always sand WITH the grain of the wood
