Rip saw and crosscut saw
Crosscuts are used for cutting across the grain
They have a more teeth then rip saws.
Why do we want to have a lot of teeth for crosscutting?
Gives a cleaner cut, and it is easier to push the saw through the wood.
Rip saws have less teeth and cut with the grain
Think of a table saw.
Backsaw

To keep it stiff
Helps keep the blade stright
Dovetail saw
Used for cutting dovetails
They are more precise then a backsaw so it is easier to make more precise cuts.
Coping Saw
Use for cutting very intricate shapes
Can be used to cut external and internal cuts
Can change the blades for finer cuts.
Used to cut moldings
The blade can be taken off easily for cutting inside holes.
Hack Saw
Used for cutting metal
Has a lot of teeth, more then the crosscut saws.
The blade is kept under tension to keep it straight when cutting.
Aviation snips and tin snips
Aviation snips can be used to cut sheet metal
There is a compound lever to make it easier to cut the metal it takes less force to used then the tin snips
They were designed during WWII for women who were working in the factories.
Why are there different handles Red for left hand curves green for right hand curves.
Tin snips are also to used to cut sheet metal
Made for cutting straight lines
They are just like scissors.
